"This wine is half Syrah and half old- vine Carignane, all from Mendocino County. The two vineyards are less than a mile apart in Calpella, north of Ukiah—around 30 minutes from my winery. The Carignane comes from Testa Ranch, […] while the Syrah is from AMT, just down the road. The Syrah fermentation stalled with a fair amount of sugar left, and since I’d always planned on blending them, I poured the Syrah juice onto a portion of Carignane pomace after it had spent a week on the skins. […] The juice was then racked into a mix of puncheons and barrels, where it aged for a year before blending and bottling in late summer."
